Time for another theme from Pining for You!
Okay, for this post I want to explore one of the very important side characters in Pining for You. I will get back to exploring another place in Jim Thorpe next time. But for now, let me introduce you to…
Josh.
Josh is fun-loving, honest, and loyal. He’s the best friend type—a man that every woman dreams of having in their life. The guy who watches movies with you with your feet propped in his lap, makes you laugh uncontrollably when you’ve had an especially crappy day, wipes away your tears when you’re heartbroken, and gives hugs like he has a degree in cuddling. He’s also secretly in love with you. I know, I know…swoon.
Josh is a character that appeared briefly in part one of the novel but plays a predominate role in part two. He’s a secondary love interest for Nicole. I KNOW…of course I did. He’s also a character that wasn’t inspired by a real person like some of the other characters I wrote about. He’s a figment of my imagination, pure fic—hang on…
Side note (If you haven’t read previous posts): I wrote the first draft for Pining for You in only two and a half weeks. I’m not on any dating sites like my character, Nicole. I’m just doing my thing. So, for someone not ‘putting themselves out there,’ I was surprised when a man that is eerily similar to Josh came into my life. He’s even said lines I wrote. What the—
Okay, so I’m not going to go into any more details than that. BUT I will say that I think there are some beta readers for Pining for You that are Team Josh. They prefer that Nicole end up with Josh instead of Everett. It’s because Josh is amazing. Truly a wonderful man, and his backstory is heartbreaking. If anyone deserves love, it’s Josh. But like Stevie Nicks says in her ballad, “Crystal”, I always trust my first initial feeling. Plus, I will always be Team Gale (Hunger Games) and Team Edward (Twilight). Just sayin’.
As for me and the real-life 'Josh' guy? Well, that story is just beginning…
