Time for another update about PINING FOR YOU.
This is train car 22. It plays a major role in Pining for You. I still haven't ridden in it yet, but hope to soon.
In this post I'm talking about love. I mean, it’s a romance novel, it was bound to come up, right? Many romance novels, including my own, follow a similar pattern of how the main characters fall in love. Slow burns are popular and feel both authentic and filled with excitement and tension. I especially like an enemies-to-lovers slow burn and there’s something very natural about easing into love, isn’t there? It feels safe. Good. Gives your head and heart time to acclimate to new feelings. I get it. It’s nice.
But what about two people who fall in love quickly? Instant connections? What about that kind of love? Some say it doesn’t exist, or that it’s just a crush, or something else. But what if it does occur? Picture this: You are in the grocery store…I know, I had to. I love to grocery shop and it’s the stereotypical spot to meet someone. Anyway, you’re in aisle seven getting some maple syrup for pancakes. You reach for the last bottle of your favorite brand, and another hand reaches for the same bottle. Your eyes meet.
Crack! Lightning strike.
The smile. Those eyes. The sense that you’ve met before. That you know this person. Running out of syrup becomes serendipitous. You offer the last bottle as do they. The more you talk, the more you feel the overwhelming sense that you’ve met your person. The world has shifted and looks different. Everything feels like déjà vu. The way you both see the world is eerily similar. It reminds me of the MGK song, Twin Flame, that he wrote for Megan Fox. If you don’t know it, check it out. You get the picture, right? It’s instant connection.
Sounds great, right? How do we all sign up for that? The problem is that kind of love isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s intimidating and scary as hell. There’s no time for the mind and heart to adjust to the intense feelings. It feels both real and unreal. You might even start pinching them or yourself. If this kind of love has happened to you, you know what I’m talking about. The kind of intensity that occurs can be consuming. Often called whirlwind romance for a reason, this is the kind of love depicted in Pining for You, and I don’t skip the overwhelming part. I even douse it with questions of faith and characters with emotional baggage. I know, I’m an a**hole. Point the finger and curse me.
Pining for You explores intense connection and the ramifications of what can happen when timing isn’t right. You can’t always meet your soulmate at the perfect time, can you? Come on…remember The Princess Bride? Meeting your soulmate doesn’t mean everything is perfect, stars aligned, etc. It just means you met them. One step at a time, ya’ll. Wesley had work stuff to do with the Dread Pirate Roberts. Pining for You is a single perspective book told from the FMC’s view. She’s ready, while the MMC needs time. The book explores how she deals with the conflict of knowing her person exists and that she cannot be with him…at least not yet. The title makes great sense now, doesn’t it?
Drop a comment if you’ve had an instant connection with someone. Would love to know!
